Why Advice Often Feels Like a Dismissal

When we try to be real, most people try to fix us.

You tell someone you’re struggling, and they immediately suggest a book to read, a podcast to listen to, or what you should try. It’s well-intentioned, but it’s also a door that is being closed. It feels like they are telling you that you're an inconvenience that needs to be resolved quickly, so everyone can go back to being fine or whatever the norm they think is.

Being solved doesn't feel like a connection; it feels more like a dismissal. It’s someone saying, I don't want to sit in the dark with you, so here’s a flashlight. But you don't need a mechanic; you just need to be seen with the imperfections that every person has.

There is a physical relief that happens when you are able to have the freedom to say the unfiltered truth, and someone just stays there with you. No tips, no at leasts, no attempts to cheer you up. Just a simple acknowledgment that what you’re feeling is real and understands we all struggle.

The weight doesn't go away, but it stops being yours alone, and you feel like you have someone to walk with you. The static in your mind quiets down because you aren't the only one carrying it anymore, and for most of us, that is the only thing that actually helps us start breathing again.

A Place to Be Found

The internet is usually a place where you have to defend your identity or curate your pain. When you write a note on The Wall, that’s gone. There are no profiles, no names, and no reputations to protect. You’re just a human putting a thought out there to be seen, get it off your chest.

When you post, you aren't looking for a "Like" or a follower. You’re looking for that anonymous signal that makes you feel heard or gives you a hug, helping you know that we are all human and you're not alone.

It’s not about finding an answer, it’s about being found.
